"This is one of those songs that just popped out. I was fooling with the main theme, which put me in the frame of mind of a perfect Oregon morning when things just started to fall in place. I start every day with a good long walk and this song captures the feelings I have when I’m out in nature: serenity, hope, optimism, and gratitude. One of my favorite parts of the song takes place in the middle, where I improvise on the main theme accompanied by a propulsive stream of muted 1/8th notes. Most of my songs are based on a theme and variation approach. I really want every song to evolve, yet be memorable in a melodic sense. Even the improvised parts can be sung."
