After 2023’s multi-genre musical odyssey ‘Temporary Utopias’ Mr Kit turns his ear to his first ever full length ambient album, ‘Glimmers’.

This latest body of work is a musical environment built to nourish glimmers and create space for them to become glows.

Mr Kit became fascinated with the psychological term ‘Glimmers’ in 2023 when he found the term useful to describe his experiences during improvisation. When researching the subject he found that the human brain has evolved to look out for threats, so we must regularly focus on positive experiences to train ourselves to autonomously seek out these glimmers when we wish to re-balance. For some, it could be keeping a gratitude diary, setting an alarm to look at trees. For others it could be recounting glimmers at the family dinner table, or blasting out music to help get out of bed in the morning. However one finds them, the importance is to routinely notice when we feel peace or safety and recognise what has triggered those feelings. By knowing what can trigger glimmers we find a sense of authority in regulating our emotional landscape.

The concept behind Glimmers, combined with the love of the ambient genre, has created an album of deep beautific drones, sparkling synthesisers and epic sonic landscapes for the body and mind. It is Mr Kit’s hope that the listener finds, just as he has, their own glimmers in this music. After sitting in these worlds he hopes those glimmers grow into glows that hug and evoke a steady radiance of light within.

The album was born from hours of improvised material during which Mr Kit played his synthesiser to create different kinds of drones which were then put through various effects in order to build large soundscapes. ‘Improvising in these ambient drone soundscapes always brought a sense of peace and rest to me’ says Mr Kit. He began releasing subscriber-only E.P’s to his Bandcamp followers in 2023 with the intent to create a musical environment to help inspire and notice glimmers.

One late evening in the cold winter of 2025 he felt a jolt of excitement as he was impelled to collect the most effective of those improvisations, the ones he found best stimulated an environment for glimmers and revisit them for an album.

During the process of remixing the pieces (which meant restructuring, adding textures and other sounds and then rebalancing all the elements) Mr Kit found himself drifting into trance like states bigger and deeper than those elicited during his time producing the thematically connected 2021 release ‘Dialogue Suspension’. During the production of Glimmers, he’d often sit staring out of the window when listening to the music, finding moments of peace and joy bubbling throughout that bathed him in bliss.

After years of improvisations and experiments in ambient soundscapes, alongside albums that feature the genre repeatedly, Mr Kit is thrilled to have unintentionally ended up with his first single-genre album. ‘I never set out to write a full length ambient album,’ Mr Kit explains. ‘I’ve always been hungry to explore all kinds of music and to shift gears with each record. However, the genre holds a special place in my life as a musical environment I always return to. I became driven to create an album of ambient music that evokes glimmers and glows in my own experience and for something I could return to whenever I wanted to enter a place of calm and safety. Whether producing to help restore my sense of play or listening to stimulate rest and a sense of warmth in my life, ambient music has always been one of my greatest joys. This album is my tribute to the genre and my offering to its community.’

Mr Kit has been a huge ambient fan for over 15 years. He’s released four genre-bending albums to date that all feature ambient tracks. The journey began in 2012 with the lauded ‘Girl Walking on the Beach Wearing a Skirt (Tre Em, ASIP 2012) which was later remixed by ambient legend Markus Guentner. He followed with the deep organic drones exploring enlightenment on Nibbana (Issa, IMPREC 2015) which led to him supporting the likes of Laraaji and Janek Schaefer. After a swathe of smaller independent EP’s he then explored jungle exoticism in the heat haze of Mango Rock set in the Vietnamese jungle (Temporary Utopias, Mr Kit’s Records 2023) following that with the blistering sunshine of a thrutopian future in The Solar Restaurant with author and activist Rob Hopkins (Field Recordings From The Future, 2025). All the ambient music he’s made over the years has helped hone his techniques and refined his ear. This can be heard on his new album as it expresses musical landscapes thriving with the potential for bliss more adeptly than ever. It feels fitting that a 15 year love affair with ambient music should culminate in his first ever single-genre album. Welcome to the world of Glimmers.
